Ronald Gene Anderson (born October 15, 1958) is an American former professional basketball player. He is most famous for playing with the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Philadelphia 76ers. After his time in the NBA, he continued to play basketball in France until he was 52 years old!

Ron Anderson's College Basketball Journey

Ron Anderson, who is 6 feet 7 inches tall, played as a guard-forward in basketball. He went to Bowen High School in Chicago. After high school, he started his college basketball career at Santa Barbara City College. Later, he played for the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Ron Anderson's Professional Basketball Career

Ron Anderson was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 1984 NBA draft. This is when NBA teams pick new players. Even though he played four years in college, he was 26 years old when he started playing in the NBA.

Playing in the NBA

Ron played in the NBA for ten seasons, from 1984 to 1994. He played for several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, and Washington Bullets. He even played for the Rochester Renegade in between some of his NBA teams.

His best years were with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played alongside another famous player, Charles Barkley. Ron scored a lot of points during his five seasons in Philadelphia. In the 1988–89 season, he scored his highest average of 16.2 points per game. By the end of his NBA career, Ron Anderson had scored a total of 7,056 points, grabbed 2,312 rebounds, and made 952 assists.

Playing Basketball Overseas

After his NBA career, Ron Anderson continued to play basketball at a high level until he was 41 years old. He played for teams in France and Israel. These teams included Montpellier Basket, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Le Mans SB. He was even the top scorer in France's main basketball league, Pro A, in 1995. He also played for the Atlantic City Seagulls for a short time.

Life and Basketball in France

Ron Anderson made France his home. He got married and started a family there. He kept playing basketball, even semi-professionally, for the team in La Séguinière. He helped this team win the Nationale Masculine 3 championship in 2003. After that, they played in a higher league called the Nationale Masculine 2.

In 2009, Ron Anderson was honored by being added to the Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame. This is a special award for great athletes from that area.

Even at 51 years old, Ron showed he still had amazing skills. He scored 23 points in a game against Tourcoing in France's second division league. He officially announced his retirement from basketball on November 16, 2010, when he was 52 years old. His team celebrated his long career at his last home game on November 27, 2010.

Ron Anderson's Family

Ron Anderson's son, Ron Anderson Jr., also became a basketball player. He played college basketball for South Florida and Kansas State. Later, Ron Anderson Jr. also played professional basketball in France, just like his dad!
