Ron Morton Thomas (born November 19, 1950 – died July 14, 2018) was an American basketball player. He played basketball both in college and as a professional athlete in the United States.
Ron Thomas was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He went to Thomas Jefferson High School in Louisville. After high school, he played college basketball for the University of Louisville.

Professional Basketball Career
Joining a Pro Team
In 1972, Ron Thomas was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics. This team is part of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was picked in the 6th round of the 1972 NBA draft.
However, Ron Thomas decided to sign with a different team. He joined the Kentucky Colonels instead. This team was part of the American Basketball Association (ABA).
Playing for the Colonels
Ron Thomas played for the Kentucky Colonels for four seasons. During his time with the team, he scored more than 1,000 points. This was a great achievement in his professional career.
He was also a key player when the Colonels won the ABA Championship in 1975. This was a major victory for the team.
After the ABA
In 1976, the ABA league closed down. Many players from ABA teams were then chosen by NBA teams. Ron Thomas was drafted by the Houston Rockets in this special draft.
However, he never played in an official NBA game.
Later Life
Ron Thomas passed away on July 14, 2018.
