Ronald Ossory Dunlop RA (born June 28, 1894 – died May 18, 1973) was a talented Irish artist and writer. He was known for his oil paintings of nature, people, and everyday objects.

Ronald Ossory Dunlop was born in Dublin, Ireland. His family had both Scottish and Irish roots. His mother was also an artist who painted with watercolors. From a young age, Ronald was surrounded by art and literature. His father, Daniel Nicol Dunlop, was friends with famous Irish writers like W. B. Yeats and James Stephens. This meant Ronald grew up in a home filled with creative ideas.
Early Life and Art Training
Ronald studied art in different places. He went to the Manchester School of Art and the Wimbledon College of Art in England. He also spent time studying art in Paris, France. Before becoming a full-time artist, he even worked for a short time in an advertising agency.
During World War I, Ronald chose not to join the military because of his beliefs. He was a conscientious objector. Instead, he helped by working on farms with the Friends' Ambulance Unit.
Becoming a Famous Artist
Ronald Dunlop became a very active artist, showing his paintings in many important places. These included the Royal Academy and the New English Art Club. His first solo art show was in London in 1928.
In 1923, he helped start a group of writers and artists called the Emotionist Group. His own paintings were known for being very lively and full of energy. He joined another important art group, The London Group, in 1931.
Ronald Dunlop's paintings are now in several public art galleries. You can see his work in places like the Tate Gallery in London and the Crawford Gallery in Cork. He became a full member of the Royal Academy in 1950, which is a big honor for an artist.
He spent most of his life in England, living near Chichester. His art style is easy to recognize.
