Rosa Palomino Chahuareses was an amazing Aymara leader from Peru. She was a journalist, a champion for human rights, and a community helper. In 2014, the Ministry of Culture gave her an award. This was for her great work in creating radio shows for women in her community.

Rosa Palomino's Life Story

Rosa Palomino was born in a small village called Camacani, Puno, in Peru. She grew up in the countryside.

Starting Radio for Women

In 1985, Rosa and a group of women started something special. They created a radio show called “Q´ana Panqara” (which means "Bright Flower"). This show was in the Aymara language. It was made in Huacullani, a district in Puno. Rosa is known as the first Aymara woman to host and produce radio shows.

Her Work in Radio and Leadership

Since 1988, Rosa produced another radio show. It was called Wiñay Panqara (meaning "Always Flourishing"). This show was on Pachamama Radio. It was a cultural show that talked about issues important to Aymara women.

Rosa was also the director of a group called Peru's Network of Indigenous Media Communicators. This group helps Indigenous people share their stories through media. In 2019, she even ran for a seat in the Congress of the Republic of Peru. She was part of the Democracia Directa political party.

Leading Aymara Women

Rosa Palomino was the president of the Abya Yala Union of Aymara Women (UMA). This group works to support Aymara women.

In 2016, the Ministry of Culture in Peru honored Rosa again. They recognized her as a very important Indigenous woman leader. Because of her strong leadership, Rosa was invited to speak at many places. She spoke at the United Nations and at universities around the world. She shared her experiences and talked about her community work. Rosa Palomino passed away in 2022.
