Rosalind Claire Love is a British historian and expert on the Middle Ages. She was born on June 29, 1966. Since 1993, she has been a Fellow at Robinson College, Cambridge. She is also a professor at the University of Cambridge, where she teaches about Anglo-Saxon history and culture.
Early Life and Education
Rosalind Love was born in Chipping Sodbury, England. She went to a private school called Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls. Later, she studied at St John's College, Cambridge. She first studied classics, which includes ancient Greek and Roman history and languages.
After that, she focused on Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic studies. In 1984, she earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA). She then continued her studies to get a doctorate. Her research was about old Latin writings from the 11th century. These writings included stories about saints. She finished her doctoral work in 1993.
Academic Career
In 1993, Rosalind Love became a Fellow at Robinson College, Cambridge. A Fellow is like a senior member of the college. In 2000, she also started teaching as a lecturer at the University of Cambridge. She taught in the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic.
She became a senior lecturer in 2008. In 2012, she was made a Reader in Insular Latin. This means she was recognized as a leading expert in Latin writings from Britain and Ireland. She was also the Head of her department in 2015.
In 2019, she became the Elrington and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon. This is a very important teaching position at the university. In 2024, she was chosen as a Fellow of the British Academy. This is a high honor for experts in humanities and social sciences.
Rosalind Love also helps publish important books. She is on the editorial board for the Richard Rawlinson Center Series. She also works as an editor for Oxford Medieval Texts. She helps the Henry Bradshaw Society with their publications too.
Her research often focuses on medieval writings. She studies old Latin texts about the lives of saints. She also looks at historical records from the Middle Ages. For example, she worked with Simon Keynes to study the Vita Ædwardi regis. This is an 11th-century book about King Edward the Confessor.
Personal Life
Rosalind Love is married to Nicholas Moir. He is an Anglican priest. They got married in 1998 and have two children.
