Rose Hill, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Rose Hill is a small place in Johnson County, Missouri. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

History of Rose Hill

Rose Hill was first planned out in 1842. When a place is "platted," it means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and buildings would go.

The community got its name because there were many wild roses growing on a small hill nearby. Imagine a beautiful spot covered in roses!

A post office was opened in Rose Hill in 1866. This was a really important place back then, as it was how people sent and received letters and packages. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1885.

Rose Hill was also sometimes known by another name: "Big Creek."
