Rose Nolan facts for kids
Rose Nolan (born in 1959) is an Australian artist. She lives and works in Melbourne. Her art is shown in important places like the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Rose makes many different kinds of art. She creates books, small sculptures, photos, and large art displays.
Her art often uses only red and white colors. She likes to use simple, inexpensive materials. These include hessian (a rough fabric) and cardboard. Her work often looks handmade, showing her personal effort.
Rose Nolan's Art Journey
Rose Nolan was part of a group of artists called 'Store 5'. This was an experimental art space in Melbourne. It ran from 1989 to 1993. The artists in Store 5 were interested in "non-objective art." This means art that doesn't try to show real-world objects. Instead, it focuses on the materials and ideas of the artwork itself.
What Inspires Her Art?
Rose Nolan's art often uses words and language. She explores how words look and feel in a space. Her work is also inspired by "conceptual art." This type of art focuses on the idea behind the artwork. The idea is more important than the finished object.
She also uses ideas from "Russian constructivism." This was an art movement that used simple shapes and bright colors. It aimed to create art that was useful and could help change society. Rose Nolan's art still uses these ideas today. She has shown her art all over Australia and in other countries since the 1980s.
