Rose Tyler's Adventures
Starting Her Journey: Series 1
When we first meet Rose, she is 19 years old. She works in a shop called Henrik's. Rose lives in London with her mother, Jackie Tyler. She also has a boyfriend named Mickey Smith. Rose did not finish high school. But she did win a bronze medal in a gymnastics competition when she was younger. Her father, Pete Tyler, died in a car accident in 1987. This was the year after Rose was born.
The Ninth Doctor first saves Rose from aliens called Autons. He then destroys the building where she works. Rose helps the Doctor defeat the Autons. After this, she decides to travel through space and time with him in his time machine, the TARDIS.
As they travel, the Doctor and Rose notice something strange. The words "Bad Wolf" keep appearing everywhere they go. They soon find out that Rose herself is the "Bad Wolf." The words are a message meant for her. They tell Rose that she must go to the future. There, she needs to take in the energy of the time vortex. This energy will help her save the Doctor and Earth from the evil Daleks. By taking in the TARDIS's power, she destroys the Daleks. She also brings Captain Jack Harkness back to life. Rose then spreads the words "Bad Wolf" across the universe. These words become clues seen throughout the series.
The huge energy Rose absorbed starts to hurt her body. The Doctor saves her by kissing her. He takes the power from her. This act makes him change his body, or "regenerate," into the Tenth Doctor.
New Adventures: Series 2
At the start of season two, Rose and the Doctor travel to a far-off planet called New New Earth. There, they meet an old friend, the Face of Boe. They also help defeat some strange cat-nurses. During this season, we see that Rose has strong feelings for the Doctor. This is shown when she meets the Doctor's former companion, Sarah Jane Smith. It's also clear when the Doctor falls for Madame de Pompadour.
Near the end of the season, the Doctor starts to show he cares for Rose too. But in the final episode, Rose gets stuck in a parallel universe. This universe looks just like hers. She is there with her mother Jackie, Mickey, and her father from that parallel world, Peter Tyler.
Returning Home: Series 4
Rose makes a few short appearances in season four. In the episode "Turn Left", a Time Beetle changes the past. This causes Donna Noble to change the universe. Rose keeps appearing to Donna. She helps Donna fix things by sending her back in time. Rose also gives Donna a message for the Doctor: "Bad Wolf." This message tells him that the end of the universe is near.
Rose finally reunites with the Doctor in "The Stolen Earth." But as they run to each other, a Dalek shoots the Doctor. A sad Rose, who also meets Jack Harkness again, has to watch the Doctor begin to regenerate once more.
In "Journey's End," the Doctor regenerates just enough to heal himself. He moves the rest of his special "Time Lord" energy into his hand. This was the hand that was cut off in an earlier episode. Later, Donna touches this hand. The energy flows into her. This creates a strange event called a "biological metacrisis." This event makes the hand grow into a new version of the Doctor. This new Doctor is part human, part Time Lord. He has the original Doctor's memories and personality. But he also has some of Donna's traits. This mixed Doctor only has one heart and cannot regenerate.
The original Doctor takes Rose back to her alternate universe. This is the place called Bad Wolf Bay. The original Doctor and the half-human Doctor decide that the half-human Doctor will stay with Rose. This new Doctor can have a romantic relationship with Rose. He will age and die like a human. This is different from the original Doctor, who would live much longer than her. The Doctor tells Rose that his half-human self needs her. He says this new Doctor was "born of blood and fire and revenge." He believes Rose can help him become a "better man." The half-human Doctor seems to finish a sentence the original Doctor started in an earlier episode. They then kiss each other. We do not hear what the half-human Doctor whispers to Rose. But the show's producer, Julie Gardner, said he was saying "I love you."
The Doctor then leaves Rose and her new Doctor in their parallel universe. The barriers between the universes are sealed again.
