Roseville-Fleetridge is a cool neighborhood located in Point Loma, San Diego, California. It's actually made up of two smaller areas: Roseville and Fleetridge. The city groups them together for things like police services.

This area is bordered by San Diego Bay and Rosecrans Street to the east, Cañon Street to the south, Catalina Boulevard to the west, and Chatsworth and Nimitz Boulevards to the north. Some of its neighbors include Point Loma Heights and Loma Portal to the north, Point Loma Village and Liberty Station to the east, and Sunset Cliffs to the west.

Roseville: A Historic Fishing Village

Roseville is the oldest part of Point Loma where people settled. It's named after Louis Rose, a pioneer who helped develop San Diego. Louis Rose bought this land in 1866. He planned out the streets and even built a dock and a hotel. For a while, Roseville was like its own small town, separate from San Diego!

You can find a special plaque at the corner of Rosecrans Street and Avenida de Portugal. This spot was once the main intersection of First and Main streets when Roseville was independent. The plaque reminds everyone that Roseville was officially established in 1869.

The Portuguese Community in Roseville

Many Portuguese fishermen and boat owners made Roseville their home. Even today, it's a very important place for San Diego's large Portuguese community.

Saint Agnes Catholic Church holds services in the Portuguese language twice a month. The church also hosts a special event called the Festa do Espirito Santo, which means "Feast of the Holy Spirit." This religious festival has been celebrated every year since 1910, making it San Diego's oldest ethnic tradition! Because of its strong connection to the tuna-fishing boats, some people used to call the area "Tunaville."

Street Names in Roseville

The streets in Roseville have interesting names. The streets that run east to west are part of what's known as the "alphabetical author streets." This series of streets starts in Roseville and continues into the nearby neighborhood of Loma Portal. They are named after famous authors in alphabetical order, from Addison to Zola! There's even a second, shorter cycle of names from Alcott to Lytton. The streets that run north to south are named after different types of trees.

Schools and Parks in Roseville

Kids in Roseville go to Cabrillo Elementary School. For fun and outdoor activities, there's the Cabrillo Recreation Center. There are also two smaller parks called Cabrillo North and South mini parks.

Fleetridge: Homes on the Hills

Above Roseville, you'll find a hilly area called Fleetridge. It's named after its developer, David Fleet, who was the son of Reuben H. Fleet. This neighborhood was built between 1950 and 1955.

Fleetridge is known for its curvy streets that follow the shape of the hills. It has many large, custom-built homes. This area is entirely residential, meaning it's mostly homes and no businesses.

Schools and Parks in Fleetridge

Dana Middle School is located in Fleetridge, at Chatsworth Street and Narragansett Avenue. Point Loma Park is also found within the Fleetridge neighborhood, offering a great place for outdoor activities.
