Roshell Bissett is a Canadian filmmaker who creates her own movies. She has written and directed several short films, which are like mini-movies, and one full-length movie called Winter Lily. One of her short films, Cotton Candy, even won awards!

Her Film Journey

Roshell Bissett started making films in the early 1990s. She created short films such as Blue Canary in 1991, Stella Signata in 1993, and Eating Noodles by the Mekong in 1994.

Cotton Candy: An Award-Winning Film

Her most well-known film is Cotton Candy. This short film was made in Tokyo, Japan, in 1995. It became very successful and won two important awards:

  • In 1997, it won the Best Canadian Short Film award at the Toronto International Film Festival. This is a big film festival in Canada.
  • In 1998, it won Best Short Film at the New York Underground Film Festival.

Directing Winter Lily

After the success of Cotton Candy, Roshell Bissett directed and helped write a full-length movie called Winter Lily in 1998.

Teaching Film

Roshell Bissett also shared her knowledge with others. For a short time, she taught students about making films at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. This school is part of Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
