A Look Back: Rossville's History
Rossville was officially planned and mapped out in 1855. This process is called "platting." It means the town's streets, blocks, and lots were laid out on a map.
The community was named after William F. Ross. He is believed to be the very first settler to arrive in the area where the town now stands, back in 1850.
By the 1880s, Rossville had grown into a small but active place. It was home to three churches, a schoolhouse for local children, a hotel for travelers, and two stores where people could buy goods.
