Rotuma facts for kids
Rotuma is a special volcanic island located about 465 kilometers (289 miles) south of Fiji. Even though it's part of Fiji, Rotuma is quite unique! It covers an area of about 43 square kilometers (17 square miles). Rotuma has been connected to Fiji since 1881.
While most of the Fijian Islands are part of Melanesia, Rotuma is far away to the north. Its people and their culture are actually more like those found in Polynesia, which is a different group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. This makes Rotuma a really interesting place with its own special traditions and way of life.
