Rougui tea (Chinese: 肉桂茶; pinyin: ròuguì chá) is a special kind of tea. It grows mostly in the Wuyi Mountains in China. This tea is made into a type of oolong tea.
The name "Rougui" means "cassia" in Chinese. Cassia is a spice similar to cinnamon. This tea is known for its unique sweet smell, like cinnamon. You can brew it many times, sometimes up to 7 times, and still enjoy its flavor! It was first created a long time ago, during the Qing dynasty in China.
What is Rougui Tea?
Rougui tea comes from the tea plant. It is grown in the beautiful Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province, China. This area is famous for its special teas. Rougui is a type of oolong tea. Oolong tea is partly fermented, which means it's somewhere between green tea (not fermented) and black tea (fully fermented).
The Taste and Smell
Rougui tea is famous for its amazing smell and taste. It often has a sweet, spicy scent, much like Chinese cinnamon. Some people also notice fruity smells in it. This unique aroma makes Rougui tea very popular.
How Rougui Tea is Made
After the tea leaves are picked, they go through a special process. This process turns them into oolong tea. There are two main ways to make Rougui tea:
- Traditional way: This method makes the tea leaves dark. The tea has a rich, strong smell.
- Newer way: This method gives the leaves different colors. The tea often has a lighter, more fruity smell.
Both ways create delicious tea. The way it's processed changes its look and flavor slightly.
