Round Spring, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Round Spring is a small, quiet place in Shannon County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's called an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Round Spring is located right next to where Spring Valley Creek flows into the Current River. You can find it along Missouri Route 19.

A Look Back in Time

The area known as Round Spring got its name from a special natural feature: a round mineral spring. A mineral spring is a place where water flows up from underground, and it often contains different minerals dissolved in it. This particular spring was very important to the early community.

A post office was opened in Round Spring in 1871. This was a big deal for the people living there, as it connected them to the rest of the country for sending and receiving mail. The post office served the community for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1980.
