Rowland, Oregon facts for kids
Rowland is a ghost town located in Linn County, in the state of Oregon in the United States. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have left, often because the main reason for the town's existence, like a mine or a railroad, is no longer active.
Rowland's Past: A Railroad Stop
Rowland used to be an important stop on a railroad line. This line was part of the Southern Pacific Railroad's East Side Line. It started out as a station for the Oregonian Railway in the 1880s.
A Busy Post Office
In 1886, a post office was opened in Rowland. This meant people living there could send and receive mail. The post office was an important part of the community for many years. However, it closed down in 1905. After the post office closed and the railroad line became less active, people started to move away. This is how Rowland became the ghost town it is today.
