The Royal Jubilee Exhibition was a big event held in Liverpool, England, in 1887. It celebrated a very special occasion: Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. This meant Queen Victoria had been queen for 50 years!

The exhibition took place at the same spot where another big show, the International Exhibition, was held the year before. This area is now known as the Wavertree Botanic Garden and Park. The main idea behind the Royal Jubilee Exhibition was to show off "The Arts of Peace and War."

Grand Opening Day

The exhibition officially opened its doors on May 16, 1887. A very important guest, Princess Louise, came to open it. She was one of Queen Victoria's daughters. Her husband, the Marquess of Lorne, was also there.

The opening ceremony was quite a show! There were musical performances from local choirs and the Exhibition Orchestra. Even the famous band of the Coldstream Guards played music. Later, visitors could enjoy exciting plays at the Royal Victoria Theatre.

The main theme of the exhibition was "The Arts of Peace and War." This meant it displayed things related to both peaceful activities and military history. Queen Victoria herself lent some amazing items for the show. These included war trophies and special souvenirs from famous explorations.

One of the most popular parts of the exhibition was a life-size display called "Old Liverpool." It showed what Liverpool looked like in earlier times. These cool scenes were even drawn and published in a popular newspaper called The Graphic for everyone to see.
