San Victorián Monastery: A Historic Place

The Real Monasterio de San Victorián has a rich history, dating back over 900 years. Monasteries like this were important centers for learning, prayer, and community life in the past. They often received support from powerful people, including kings.

Royal Support for the Monastery

One of the most important people who supported the monastery was King Ramiro I of Aragon. He was a king who ruled in the 11th century. King Ramiro I gave many valuable gifts to the monastery. These gifts helped the monastery grow and become stronger.

For example, King Ramiro I gave the monastery families and their possessions. This meant that these families, like Oriolus and his wife Elo from Villa Alascore, and another family from Villa Luzares, would serve the monastery forever. They and their future generations, along with everything they owned or would gain, were given to the monastery. This kind of gift showed how much the king valued and supported the religious community at San Victorián.
