Rozetta Andreyevna Zhilina (Russian: Розе́тта Андре́евна Жи́лина) was a brilliant Soviet and Russian mathematician and computer scientist. She was born on June 8, 1933, in Leningrad (which is now Saint Petersburg). She passed away on December 11, 2003, in Snezhinsk. Early Life and Education
Rozetta Zhilina grew up in the Soviet Union. She was very good at math and science. In 1956, she graduated from the Mathematics and Mechanics department. This was at the Leningrad State University. A famous mathematician named Anatoly Vershik was one of her classmates there.
Her Work as a Computer Scientist
After finishing university, Rozetta Zhilina started working. She joined the mathematical section of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute Of Technical Physics. This was a very important place for scientific research.
Computers in the Soviet Union
After World War II, the Soviet Union wanted to build its own computers. They aimed to create systems that could compete with those in the United States. During the Cold War, much of this computer research was kept secret. However, it was seen as a very important field for the country's future.
From the 1960s to the 1980s, many women studied computer science in Soviet universities. About half of the students in this area were women. They later became programmers or system designers, helping to build new computer systems.

Rozetta Zhilina passed away in Snezhinsk in 2003. She was buried in the town cemetery there. Her work helped advance computer science and mathematics in the Soviet Union and Russia.
