Rubén Tierrablanca González (born August 24, 1952 – died December 22, 2020) was a Catholic bishop from Mexico. He served the Catholic Church in Turkey for many years.
Life and Work
Rubén Tierrablanca González was born in Mexico. He became a priest in 1978. A priest is a religious leader in the Catholic Church.
Later, he became a bishop. A bishop is a high-ranking leader in the church. He was given the special title of titular bishop of Tubernuca. This means he had the title of a bishop for a place that no longer has a bishop living there.
From 2016 until he passed away in 2020, he had two important jobs in Istanbul, Turkey:
- He was the Vicar Apostolic of Apostolic Vicariate of Istanbul. This means he was the main leader for the Catholic community in that area.
- He was also the Apostolic Administrator of the Greek Catholic Apostolic Exarchate of Istanbul. This was another leadership role for a specific group of Catholics in Istanbul.
He passed away in Istanbul in 2020 at the age of 68. He died from COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. He had been in the hospital for about three weeks.
