Ruben Wright (born around 1937 or 1938) is a talented musician from Philadelphia. He used to lead a band and is also a songwriter. He had a big hit song called "I'm Walking Out On You" that reached the Top 30 on the R&B charts. Ruben also wrote "God Only Knows" for a group called The Capris back in 1954.

Early Music Days

Ruben Wright started his music journey in the early 1950s. He was part of a group called The Uniques. In this group, Ruben played the piano. All the members of The Uniques grew up in the same neighborhood.

This group later changed and became known as The Capris. When they formed The Capris, the members were quite young, only about 15 or 16 years old. In 1954, The Capris signed with Gotham Records. They recorded "God Only Knows," a song written by Ruben Wright himself. A singer named Renee Hinton sang the main part of the song. The Capris eventually broke up in 1958. After that, Ruben Wright began his career as a solo artist.

Ruben's Solo Career

Ruben Wright released his first solo record in 1958. It had two songs: "Girls Make Me Nervous" and "Love Is Gone." The song "Love Is Gone" was written by Eddie Warner. Some people think that the singers helping out on this song were from his old group, The Capris. His next record was "To You" with "Bye Bye" on the other side.

In the early 1960s, Ruben joined a group called The Manhattans. They were a backing group, meaning they sang harmonies for other artists. They helped out a group called The Larks on their song "It's Unbelievable."

Ruben Wright then signed with Capitol Records, a very famous record company. He released five records with them. His first Capitol record came out in 1964. It featured the songs "Where Was I" and "Bye Bye."

In 1966, Ruben released his most famous song, "I'm Walking Out On You." This song became very popular. It spent six weeks on the National R&B Top 40 charts, reaching as high as number 29! In 1967, another one of his Capitol songs, "I'll Be There," was also expected to become a hit. That same year, he wrote "That's All That Counts" for a group called The Four Larks.

Ruben's last known record was "I'm Gonna Have My Day" with "La La La" on the other side.
