Ruby is a small, quiet place in Copiah County, Mississippi, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Ruby is located about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of a town called Crystal Springs.
The History of Ruby
Ruby first started as a settlement way back in 1850. It was named after the daughter of Albert Gates, who owned the very first store there.
At one time, Ruby had a sawmill, which cut wood, and a school where children learned. Many people who lived in Ruby moved to a nearby place called Hopewell after a railroad and a train station were built there in 1909.
In 1916, Ruby even had a pharmacist, who helped people with their medicines. There was also a post office in Ruby that operated from 1892 until 1908.
