Hopewell is a small place in Copiah County, Mississippi, in the United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Hopewell is located along the path of what used to be the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.
History of Hopewell
Hopewell started when people moved to the area because a new railroad depot was built. This depot was located east of a place called Ruby. The community got its name "Hopewell" from three people: W. T. Sandifer, Daniel Young, and a Mr. Barron.
In 1916, Hopewell even had its own pharmacist. This shows that it was a growing place with some important services. A post office also served the community, operating under the name Hopewell from 1908 until 1956. This means people could send and receive mail right there for many years.
