Ruby Storm (born 18 November 2003) is an amazing Australian Paralympic swimmer. She has an intellectual disability. Ruby has won many medals for Australia. She earned a bronze medal at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, she won a silver and a bronze medal. She also won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Ruby Storm was born on 18 November 2003. She grew up in a town called Traralgon in Victoria, Australia. Ruby also has Indigenous heritage.

Ruby's Swimming Journey

When Ruby was a little kid, she was actually scared of the water! But she learned to swim by watching her older sister. This helped her become the incredible swimmer she is today.

What is S14 Classification?

Ruby is classified as an S14 swimmer. This means she competes in a special category for athletes with an intellectual disability. This classification helps make sure competitions are fair for everyone.

Early Success in Swimming

Ruby started making a name for herself early on. In 2018, she broke records at the Para Pan Pac trials. She won the 200-meter freestyle event there.

World Championships Medals

Ruby has done very well at the World Para Swimming Championships.

  • In 2019, she was part of the Australian team in London. They won a bronze medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 m Freestyle Relay S14.
  • In 2022, she won a silver medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 m Freestyle Relay S14 in Madeira.
  • In 2023, she won another silver medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 m freestyle relay S14 in Manchester.

Paralympic Games Achievements

Ruby has proudly represented Australia at the Paralympic Games.

2020 Tokyo Paralympics

At the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Ruby had an amazing performance.

  • She teamed up with Madeleine McTernan, Ricky Betar, and Benjamin Hance. Together, they won a silver medal in the Mixed 4 x 100 m freestyle S14 relay. They finished just behind Great Britain, who set a new world record.
  • Ruby also won a bronze medal in the Women's 100 m butterfly S14 event. Another Australian swimmer, Paige Leonhardt, came in second place in that race.

2024 Paris Paralympics

Ruby continued her success at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. She won another silver medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 m freestyle relay S14. She also competed in three other individual events.

Commonwealth Games

Ruby also competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. She finished 6th in the Women's 100 m freestyle S14 event.

Coaching and Training

Ruby was coached by Deen Gooch in Traralgon for a while. As of 2024, her coach is Ashley Delaney. She trains at the St Andrews Swim Club on the Sunshine Coast.

Awards and Recognition

  • In 2018, Ruby was honored as the Junior Annual Gippstar Winner.
