Ruby Storm is an amazing Australian swimmer. She was born on 18 November 2003. Ruby competes in Paralympic swimming. This means she swims in races for athletes with disabilities.

Ruby has an intellectual disability. She has won many medals for Australia. These include silver and bronze medals at the Paralympic Games. She also has medals from the World Para Swimming Championships.

Ruby Storm's Early Life

Ruby grew up in a town called Traralgon in Victoria, Australia. She has a special connection to Australia's Indigenous heritage. When she was little, Ruby was actually afraid of water. But she learned to swim by watching her older sister. This shows how brave and determined she is!

Ruby Storm's Swimming Journey

Ruby is classified as an S14 swimmer. This classification is for athletes with an intellectual impairment. It helps make sure races are fair.

Breaking Records and First Medals

In 2018, Ruby started making a big splash. She broke records at the Para Pan Pac trials. She won the 200m freestyle event.

In 2019, Ruby went to the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships in London. She was part of the Australian team. They won a bronze medal in the Mixed 4 × 100m Freestyle Relay S14. This was a great start to her international career! She also competed in other races there.

Paralympic Games Success

Ruby's biggest achievements came at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. These games happened in 2021 due to world events.

  • Silver Medal: Ruby teamed up with Madeleine McTernan, Ricky Betar, and Benjamin Hance. They won a silver medal in the Mixed 4 x 100m freestyle S14 relay. Their time was 3:46.38. Great Britain won gold and set a new world record.
  • Bronze Medal: Ruby also won a bronze medal in the Women's 100m butterfly S14. Her time was 1:06.50. Another Australian swimmer, Paige Leonhardt, won silver in this race.

Ruby also reached the finals in three other individual events at the Tokyo Paralympics.

At the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, Ruby continued her success. She won another silver medal in the Mixed 4 × 100 m freestyle relay S14. She also competed in three other individual events.

World Championships and Commonwealth Games

Ruby has also done well at other major competitions.

  • 2022 World Para Swimming Championships: In Madeira, Ruby won a silver medal. This was for the Mixed 4 x 100m Freestyle S14 relay.
  • 2022 Commonwealth Games: In Birmingham, England, Ruby finished 6th. This was in the Women's 100m freestyle S14.
  • 2023 World Para Swimming Championships: In Manchester, England, Ruby won another silver medal. This was for the Mixed 4 × 100 m freestyle relay S14.

Coaching and Training

Ruby was coached by Deen Gooch in Traralgon for a long time. As of 2024, her coach is Ashley Delaney. She trains at the St Andrews Swim Club on the Sunshine Coast.
