Rudolf Vatinyan (Armenian: Ռուդոլֆ Վաթինյան) was an Armenian cinematographer. He was born on May 12, 1941, and passed away on January 2, 2021. A cinematographer is a person who is in charge of the cameras and lighting when making a movie. They help bring the director's vision to life on screen.

Rudolf Vatinyan was born in a town called Dilijan in Armenia. He loved movies and decided to study filmmaking.

His Education and Career

In 1969, Rudolf finished his studies at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). This is a very famous film school. After graduating, he started working at the Armenfilm studio in 1970. He worked there for many years, until he passed away.

Besides making movies, Rudolf also enjoyed teaching. Since 1980, he taught at the Department of Culture of Yerevan State Pedagogical Institute. Later, starting in 1994, he also taught at the Institute of Cinema and Theatre. He helped many young filmmakers learn about cinematography.
