Ruffett Wood and Big Wood are two woods that are right next to each other. They cover a total area of about 7 hectares (which is like 17 football fields!). You can find them on the edge of the London Borough of Sutton, near the village of Woodmansterne. Big Wood is to the south, and Ruffett Wood is to the north.
These woods are owned by Sutton Council and looked after by the Woodland Trust. They are very important for nature, so they have been named a Local Nature Reserve. This means they are protected places where plants and animals can thrive. They are also the biggest area of continuous woodland in the Sutton area.

Ancient Trees and Plants
Ruffett Wood has many sycamore trees, along with some ash and hazel trees. It also has special plants that show it might be an ancient woodland. These plants include beautiful bluebells, dog's mercury, and sanicle. These plants often grow in woodlands that have been around for a very long time.
Big Wood is mostly sycamore trees. It also has two very large oak trees. Because the trees are so tall and shady, not many other special plants can grow there. However, you can find a patch of wood anemone, which is another sign of an old woodland.
