Ruffus the Dog (also known as RuFFuS T H E D O G) is a fun Canadian TV show made for kids. It was shown on YTV from 1998 to 1999. The show was created by Robert Mills and developed with Cheryl Wagner.
Before the TV show, the character Ruffus was in an educational video series called The Adventures of Ruffus & Andy. In these videos, Ruffus and his owner, Andy, learned about health and medical topics. These videos were made in the early 1990s by the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario.
About the Show's Creator
The TV show Ruffus the Dog was made by Radical Sheep Productions. This company was started by Robert Mills in 1985. Robert Mills is also the person who performs the character of Ruffus!
In 2002, Robert Mills started a new company called Hunky Dorey Entertainment. The rights to the Ruffus the Dog series moved to his new company. Now, Robert Mills shares the original TV show and new Ruffus adventures online.
New Adventures of Ruffus
One of the first big new projects was a special version of the classic story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this version, Ruffus played the main character, Scrooge!
There are also plans for new projects, including:
- A new web series called Ruffus The Dog's Steampunk Adventure.
- A series of illustrated books.
- A web series for younger kids (pre-schoolers) called Ruffus Rhymes.
What is the Show About?
In the Ruffus the Dog TV show, Ruffus runs a bookshop in a small town. Each episode, he reads a famous fairy tale to the viewers.
As he reads, Ruffus and other characters act out the story. Ruffus often plays different characters in the fairy tale. At the end of each story, Ruffus explains the moral of the story. The moral is the important lesson or message the story teaches.
