Rushing is a small place in Stone County, Arkansas, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.

How Rushing Got Its Name

A post office was opened in Rushing in 1882. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office stayed open until 1971. The community was named after an early postmaster, Mr. Rushing.

The first person to run the post office in Rushing, Arkansas, was Ephraim Owen Rushing. He was born in Illinois in 1839. Mr. Rushing moved to Arkansas around 1871 or 1872. He came with his wife, Bashaba Elizabeth Holland, and their two sons, Phillip and Bruce. Phillip was born in 1866 and Bruce in 1870.

More children were born to the Rushing family after they moved to Arkansas. Their daughter, Marietta Asanath, was born in Rushing in 1872. Their son, Madison, was born there in 1876. People believe that Ephraim's oldest son, Phillip, later became the postmaster after his father.
