Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Rushtown is a small place in Ohio, located in Scioto County. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

History of Rushtown

Rushtown has an interesting past. A place for sending and receiving mail, called a post office, opened in Rushtown in 1878. It served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1959.

Besides the post office, Rushtown was also a stop on the Norfolk and Western Railroad. This meant trains would pass through, connecting the community to other places.

A special natural feature near Rushtown is where two waterways meet. This meeting point, called a confluence, is where Scioto Brush Creek flows into the Scioto River. This area has created a rocky part of the river known as the Rushtown Riffles. These riffles are shallow, rocky sections where the water moves quickly, making them a favorite spot for people who enjoy kayaking.
