Ruth Logan Roberts (1891 – 1968) was an important American woman. She worked hard for women's right to vote, which is called suffrage. She was also a leader in the YWCA, an organization that helps young women. Ruth was known for hosting special gatherings at her home in Harlem, New York City, where many important people met to discuss ideas.

Early Life and Education

Ruth Logan Roberts was born in 1891. Her mother, Adella Hunt Logan, was also a suffragist. Ruth studied physical therapy, which is about helping people move and feel better. She went to the Sargent School of Physical Education in Boston. She finished her studies there in 1911.

After college, Ruth worked as a physical educator at the Tuskegee Institute. In 1917, she married a doctor named Eugene Percy Roberts. The couple then moved to New York City.

Fighting for Change

Ruth Logan Roberts began her work as a suffragist around 1913 in Tuskegee. She continued her important work after moving to New York City. She served on many different boards and actively spoke out for women's right to vote. She also worked against unfair treatment based on race.

Roberts was a member of the boards of directors for both national and local YWCA groups. She also served on the board of the Katy Ferguson Home. This home helped unmarried mothers. She was also part of the New York State Board of Social Welfare.

While working with the YWCA, Ruth helped women sell war bonds. This was part of the Liberty Loan program, which helped fund the war effort. Governor Thomas E. Dewey appointed her to the New York State Board of Social Welfare. Because of her background in health education, she also served on the boards of the New York Tuberculosis and Health Association and the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses.

Ruth Roberts hosted special gatherings at her home in Harlem. These gatherings were called "salons." Her home was located at 130 West 130th Street in Harlem, New York City. These salons brought together many important people from Harlem. They included leaders in politics, community service, and the arts.
