Rylstone railway station is an old train station in Rylstone, Australia. It's a special place because it's listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register. This means it's important to the history of New South Wales.
The station stopped regular passenger trains in 1985. But there are plans to bring back tourist trains! These trains will run between Kandos and Rylstone.

A Look Back: Station History
The Rylstone railway station first opened its doors on 9 June 1884. This happened when the train line was extended from Capertee.
Regular passenger train services stopped on 2 December 1985. Freight trains also stopped going past Kandos in 1992. After the station closed, it was used for different things. It was a craft store for a while, then a storage area.
Bringing Trains Back to Rylstone
After more than 20 years, a passenger train finally arrived at Rylstone in March 2016. This was a special tourist train for the Rylstone Show.
In October 2017, the government promised $1.1 million. This money was to fix the train line between Kandos and Rylstone. Local groups like the Kandos Museum worked hard for this. They wanted to create a fun tourist train area.
The repair work was expected to finish by June 2018. The Kandos-Rylstone Rail Heritage Precinct group now manages the Kandos station. They hope to start regular tourist trains by the end of 2018. They are still working on restoring the old train cars.
What the Station Looks Like
The Rylstone station has several interesting parts.
- Station Building: The main building is made of timber. It was finished in 1884. It's a classic design for a country station.
- Platform: The platform where people waited for trains is made of concrete.
- Goods Shed: There's a large shed made of corrugated iron. This shed was used for storing goods. It also has a crane to lift heavy items.
- Other Features: The station also has a special dock platform. This was for loading and unloading goods. There's also a jib crane and a loading bank.
- Trees: Even the trees around the station are part of its heritage listing!
Why Rylstone Station is Special
The Rylstone station is a great example of an old Victorian-era train complex. It's in a town with a lot of history. The station still looks much like it did a long time ago. Its front area and fences are almost original.
The station building itself is a beautiful example of a timber country station. It still has many of its original details. Not many buildings like this from the 1870s and 1880s are still around.
The Rylstone railway station was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. It's considered special because it shows a rare part of New South Wales' history.
