Ryo Sakai (酒井 良, Sakai Ryo, born August 9, 1977) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a Midfielder during his career.

Ryo Sakai's Football Journey
Early Career and First Steps
Ryo Sakai was born in Sagamihara, Japan, on August 9, 1977. After finishing his studies at Tokyo University of Agriculture, he began his professional football career. In 2000, he joined Shonan Bellmare, a club in the J2 League.
During his first year with Shonan Bellmare, Ryo Sakai played in many matches as a forward. However, his playing time became less in 2001.
Moving to New Teams
In 2002, Ryo Sakai moved to another J2 League club, Montedio Yamagata. He played in many games for this team. The next year, in 2003, he joined Okinawa Kariyushi FC, which was part of the Japanese Regional Leagues.
In October 2004, he moved to Thespa Kusatsu. This club was in the Japan Football League (JFL) at the time. Thespa Kusatsu was promoted to the J2 League in 2005. Ryo Sakai played many matches for them as an offensive midfielder.
Years with FC Machida Zelvia
In 2006, Ryo Sakai joined FC Machida Zelvia, another club in the Regional Leagues. He became a regular player for this team and stayed with them for a long time.
His team, FC Machida Zelvia, was promoted to the JFL in 2009. Later, in 2012, they were promoted again to the J2 League. However, Ryo Sakai did not play much in 2012. He decided to retire from football at the end of the 2012 season.
