Early Career and Rise to Fame
Ryuji Fujiyama was born in Kagoshima, Japan, on June 9, 1973. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey. In 1992, he joined a club called Tokyo Gas. This team later became known as FC Tokyo.
From his very first season, Ryuji Fujiyama became an important player. He played as a side midfielder and also as a defensive midfielder. These roles involve helping both attack and defense on the field.
Changing Positions and Club Success
In 1995, his coach, Kiyoshi Okuma, moved him to a new position. Ryuji started playing as a left side back. This is a defender who plays on the left side of the field. He played in this position for many years.
As Ryuji's career grew, so did his club's success. FC Tokyo improved a lot each year. In 1998, they won the championship in the Japan Football League. This win helped them move up to a new league called J2 League in 1999.
