Castillo Sadaba1
Castle of Sádaba

Sádaba Castle is an old castle found in Sádaba, a town in Aragon, eastern Spain. It stands about 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of Zaragoza. This impressive building tells a story of the past and how castles were built long ago.

History of Sádaba Castle

The first time Sádaba Castle is mentioned in writing was in a document from 1125. However, experts believe the castle itself was built a bit later. They think it was constructed in the first half of the 13th century, which means between 1200 and 1250.

It's not completely clear who ordered the castle to be built. But many people suspect that Sancho VII of Navarre, a king from that time, might have been the one to start its construction.

What the Castle Looks Like

Sádaba Castle is a great example of a typical castle from the Middle Ages. It has very tall walls and seven strong square towers. These towers helped protect the castle from invaders.

The castle also shows signs of a special building style called Cistercian. This style often uses simple, strong shapes and designs.

Inside the Castle Walls

If you were to step inside Sádaba Castle, you would find a large open space called a courtyard. In the middle of this courtyard, there is a big rainwater tank. This tank was very important because it collected water for the people living inside the castle.

In one corner of the courtyard, there is also a small chapel. This was a place for prayer and quiet reflection. On the sides of the castle, you can still see what's left of two big halls. These halls were likely two stories high and used for gatherings or living spaces.

The castle is quite large, measuring about 38 meters (125 feet) long and 30 meters (98 feet) wide. Its size and strong design made it a powerful fortress in its time.
