Sacacoyo is a small town in El Salvador. It is a municipality located in the La Libertad department.
History of Sacacoyo
The name Sacacoyo comes from an old language called Nahua. It means "in the path of coyotes and grass." This name tells us about the animals and plants that were common there long ago.
In 1890, about 1,870 people lived in Sacacoyo. For a short time in 1905, Sacacoyo was joined with another town called Tepecoyo. But just two years later, on May 11, 1907, a special law was passed. This law made Sacacoyo its own town again.
Geography and Divisions
Sacacoyo is divided into smaller areas for local management. These areas are called cantons.
The three main cantons that make up Sacacoyo are:
- Ateos (which was once known as Atehuan)
- Buena Vista
- La Montañita
