Sacahuista was a famous American Thoroughbred racehorse. She was born in 1984 in Kentucky. Sacahuista became a champion, earning an Eclipse Award. She was related to a famous horse named Nearco. Her father, Bold Ruler, was also a champion.

Sacahuista's Early Life and Training

Sacahuista was bought when she was just a year old. She cost $670,000. Her new owners were Barry Beal and Lloyd French, Jr. Her trainer was D. Wayne Lukas, who is now in the Hall of Fame. He helped her become a top racehorse.

Sacahuista's Two-Year-Old Season

When Sacahuista was two years old, she raced nine times. She won four of those races. She also finished second three times. In 1986, she was a favorite to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies race. This big race took place at Santa Anita Park. With jockey Laffit Pincay, Jr., she finished fourth.

Sacahuista's Champion Three-Year-Old Season

Sacahuista had an amazing year when she was three. She officially won two of her nine races. However, she actually crossed the finish line first in two other races, the Cotillion Handicap and the Ruffian Handicap. But she was disqualified in those races because she interfered with other horses.

Winning Major Races

After those races, Sacahuista, with jockey Randy Romero, won the important Grade I Spinster Stakes. This was a big win for her. Her greatest victory came next. She won the Breeders' Cup Distaff at Hollywood Park Racetrack. This win showed she was one of the best fillies.

Earning the Eclipse Award

Because of her excellent performance in 1987, Sacahuista received a special award. She was named the American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. This Eclipse Award is one of the highest honors in horse racing.

Sacahuista's Retirement and Offspring

After her champion year, Sacahuista raced three more times when she was four. Her best result was a second-place finish. After that, she retired from racing. She became a broodmare, which means she had baby horses.

Sacahuista's Famous Children

Sacahuista had several successful children. One of her sons was named Ekraar. His father was Red Ransom. Ekraar became a millionaire racehorse in Europe. He won several important races, including the Italian Group One Gran Premio del Jockey Club. Sacahuista also had another famous son named Hussonet. His father was Mr. Prospector. Hussonet became a very successful father horse himself in Australia.
