Sacramento is a city in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila. It is the main city for the area around it, which is called the Sacramento municipality.
Where is Sacramento?
Sacramento is located in the central part of Coahuila state. You can find it at these coordinates: 27°00′13″N 101°43′29″W / 27.00361°N 101.72472°W. It is about 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of Saltillo, which is the state capital. It is also about 50 kilometers (31 miles) northwest of Monclova, an older state capital. The city is right on Federal Highway 30.
History of Sacramento
Sacramento was first started in 1842. Back then, it was known as Villa Nueva. The name was later changed to Sacramento. This new name means "sacrament," which is a special religious ceremony. People believe the city was renamed to honor a visit from a priest named Miguel Hidalgo. He held a special mass there. In 1862, Sacramento officially became a town.
