History of the Museum

The idea for the Sacramento Children's Museum started many years ago. It was created to fill a need for a dedicated learning space for young children in the area.

How It Started

The museum was first organized in 2005. It was set up as a non-profit corporation. This means it's a group that uses its money to help the community, not to make a profit. Kathleen Palley, a local mother, and Alan Godlove helped guide its creation. Their vision was to build a place where children could learn and grow.

Opening Its Doors

The museum officially opened on August 25, 2011. Sharon Stone Smith was the Executive Director at the time. She helped lead the museum in its early years. The facility covers 7,000 square feet. This large space is filled with many different exhibits and play areas. The museum is also easy to find, located near U.S. Route 50 in California.
