This church has a beautiful Gothic design. This style often includes tall arches and detailed stone work. The first stone for the church was placed on March 25, 1874. Important church leaders, like the Bishop of Cadiz and the Vicar Apostolic of Gibraltar, were there. The church was officially blessed and opened on July 15, 1888.
Important People and Features
Many priests have served at Sacred Heart Church. One notable priest was Charles Caruana. He later became the Roman Catholic Bishop of Gibraltar. He served as bishop from 1998 to 2010.
