Safra Square (Hebrew: כיכר ספרא, Kikar Safra) is a big public space in Jerusalem. It's like a town square, and it's where Jerusalem's City Hall is located. City Hall is the main building where the city's government works.
The square is named after Jacob and Esther Safra. They were the parents of Edmond Safra, a kind person who gave money to help make downtown Jerusalem better. People who give money to help good causes are called philanthropists.

What is Safra Square?

History of the Square
Before Safra Square was built, Jerusalem's City Hall was in a different, smaller building. As the city grew, it needed a bigger and more modern place for its government. So, they decided to create a new City Hall complex.
The new City Hall and Safra Square were finished in 1993. The design of the square and the buildings around it mixes old and new styles. Some of the older buildings were kept and made part of the new complex.
What Happens at Safra Square?
Safra Square is a busy place. It's where many city events and celebrations happen. People often gather here for public meetings or special holidays. For example, during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, a large public sukkah (a temporary hut) is often set up in the square.
It's also a place where people can relax. There are palm trees and open spaces. It's a good example of how a city can have modern buildings while still respecting its history.
