St. Amant is located about 25 miles southeast of Baton Rouge. It is also about 50 miles northwest of New Orleans. The community was named after the St. Amant family. They were some of the first people to settle in this area. Long ago, Native Americans and early French settlers called this area "Duckroost" or "Cabanocey."
