Discovering Saint Andrew's Name
The parish of Saint Andrew gets its name from a very important person. This person is a patron saint named Saint Andrew. A patron saint is like a special protector or guide. Saint Andrew is also honored in Barbados' highest national award. This award is called "The Order of Saint Andrew." It is given to people who have done great things for the country.
Why Saint Andrew is Called the Scotland District
Long ago, when Barbados was a colony of Britain, the British people noticed something interesting. The hills and fields in Saint Andrew looked a lot like the beautiful landscapes of Scotland. Because of this, the area earned a special nickname. People started calling it the "Scotland District." It's a fun way to remember the history of the place.
Exploring Saint Andrew's Natural Beauty
Saint Andrew is located on the eastern coast of Barbados. This side of the island faces the mighty Atlantic Ocean. The ocean here can be quite wild and exciting. The parish is also home to some amazing natural places. One of these is the Turner's Hall Woods. These woods are like a natural reserve, protecting many plants and animals. It's a great place to see Barbados' natural environment.
