Saint Eigrad facts for kids

Saint Eigrad (also known as Eugrad) was an important Welsh saint who lived a very long time ago, in the 500s. He is famous for starting St Eugrad's Church in a place called Llaneugrad on the island of Anglesey in Wales.
Who Was Saint Eigrad?
Saint Eigrad was a special person from Wales who lived in the 6th century. This means he was alive between the years 501 and 600. He is remembered for his good deeds and for helping to spread Christianity.
His Family and Teacher
We know about Eigrad from an old book called Life of Gildas, written by a person named Caradoc in the 1100s. Eigrad was part of a very interesting family!
- His father was a king named Caw of Strathclyde.
- He had two brothers who also became saints: Gildas and Samson.
- Eigrad learned a lot from another famous saint, Illtud, who was his teacher.
Founding a Church
In the year 605 AD, Saint Eigrad started a church in Llaneugrad, Anglesey. This church is still there today! His brother, Gallgo, also started a church nearby in a place called Llanallgo. It's cool to think that these two churches, founded by brothers so long ago, are now part of the same church area.
Remembering Saint Eigrad
People remember Saint Eigrad on his special day, which is called a feast day. His feast day is celebrated every year on January 6th.
