Caw of Strathclyde facts for kids

King Caw (also known as Cawn) was a semi-legendary king who lived around 495 to 501 AD. He ruled a kingdom called Strathclyde in what is now Scotland. Not many solid facts are known about him, so much of his story comes from old legends.
King Caw lived during a time in Sub-Roman Britain called the Hen Ogledd period, which means "The Old North." He ruled from a strong castle located at a place called Alt Clut. This was a very important fort. Legends say that King Caw even fought against the famous King Arthur.
King Caw became king in 495 AD by taking power from another ruler named King Tutagual. However, he only stayed in power for six years before he was removed himself. This was a very difficult and unsettled time in history, as it happened during the Anglo-Saxon invasion of England. After losing his kingdom, King Caw is said to have fled to Wales.
