Sali Hughes was born in 1975 and grew up in a place called Blackwood, Caerphilly in Wales. Her father worked in politics for the Labour Party, helping people and communities. Her mother worked for a local education group. Sali has three brothers. She went to a comprehensive school called Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni.
Before becoming a journalist, Sali worked for two years as an assistant to a make-up artist named Lynne Easton. This job helped her gain experience. She even worked on photo shoots with famous musicians like George Michael and the Pet Shop Boys. She also helped with television commercials.
