Salisbury is a small place in Illinois that isn't officially a town or city. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government. You can find Salisbury in Sangamon County, about 11 miles (18 kilometers) northwest of a bigger city called Springfield. It's located right along Illinois Route 97, which is a main road.
History of Salisbury
Salisbury used to be part of its own area called Salisbury Township. A township is like a small local government area. But in 1989, Salisbury Township decided to close down. After that, the Salisbury area joined a nearby township called Gardner Township.
Even though Salisbury is now part of Gardner Township, its mail still goes through the village of Pleasant Plains. Pleasant Plains is about seven miles southwest of Salisbury.
