She's famous for writing about cool science topics, like the mysterious Mystery Fish: Secrets of the Coelacanth (2005) or the history-filled Written in Bone: Buried Lives of Jamestown and Colonial Maryland (2009). Sally M. Walker was born in New Jersey in 1956. Today, she lives in DeKalb, Illinois. She married James Walker in 1974 and they have two children. Sally earned her college degree from Upsala College in 1975. When she's not writing, she enjoys hiking, reading, cooking, and gardening.
Sally's Writing Career
Sally M. Walker is a literature consultant and a talented author. She writes nonfiction books especially for young people. Before becoming a full-time author, Sally worked with children's books in different ways. She bought books for a bookstore and also advised people on children's literature. She even taught for a while at Northern Illinois University.
In 2006, Sally won a big award called the Sibert Medal. She received it for her book Secrets of a Civil War Submarine: Solving the Mysteries of the H.L. Hunley. This book helped solve puzzles about a real submarine from the Civil War!
