The flesh of the salmon fish is salmon-colored.

Salmon is a beautiful color that reminds us of the pale pinkish-orange shades often seen in nature. It gets its name from the color of the flesh of the salmon fish.

People first started using "salmon" as a color name in the English language way back in 1776. It's a warm and inviting color, often seen in sunsets, flowers, and even some clothing.

What is the Salmon Color?

The color salmon is a mix between pink and orange. It's not quite pink and not quite orange, but somewhere in the middle. Think of the inside of a ripe peach or the soft glow of a sunset. This color is often described as gentle and soothing.

Where Does the Name Come From?

The name "salmon" comes directly from the fish. Many types of salmon fish have flesh that is a distinct pinkish-orange color. This is because of what they eat, like small crustaceans, which contain pigments called carotenoids. These pigments give the fish their unique color, and then the color gets its name from the fish!

Different Shades of Salmon

Just like there are many shades of pink or blue, there are also different shades of salmon. Some can be very light, almost like a pale peach, while others can be a deeper, more vibrant orange-pink. These different shades are used in many ways, from art to fashion.

How Colors Are Measured

Colors can be measured using special codes. These codes help designers and artists make sure they are using the exact same color every time. For example, a "HEX Code" is a six-digit number that represents a specific color. There are also numbers for Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) that show how much of each basic color is in a shade.
