Salwey Winnington (born August 28, 1666 – died November 6, 1736) was an important English landowner. He lived at Stanford Court in Worcestershire. Salwey Winnington was also a Member of Parliament (MP), which means he was elected to help make laws for the country.

Early Life and Family Connections

Salwey Winnington was the oldest son of Sir Francis Winnington. His father was a well-known lawyer and politician. Sir Francis was even a top government lawyer called the Solicitor General in the 1670s.

Just like his father, Salwey also decided to study law. He joined a famous legal school called the Middle Temple. This was a place where people learned to become lawyers.

In 1690, Salwey Winnington got married to Anne Foley. Anne was the daughter of Thomas Foley from Witley Court. Her brother was Lord Foley, who was also an important person.

Salwey and Anne had one son named Thomas Winnington. Their son also grew up to become a Member of Parliament. He even became a Privy Counsellor, which meant he was a trusted advisor to the King or Queen. Salwey and Anne also had five daughters.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

Salwey Winnington started his political career in 1694. He was elected as the MP for Bewdley. A "constituency" is an area that an MP represents. Bewdley was special because it was one of the few places in England that only had one MP.

Salwey Winnington served as the MP for Bewdley for almost twenty years. He was a member of Parliament for nearly all that time, only missing about two and a half years.
