Samuel George Claflin (born 27 June 1986) is a British actor. He is well-known for his roles in many popular movies and TV shows.
After finishing his acting studies in 2009, Sam started his career on television. His first big movie role was as Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2011.
Sam became even more famous for playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games movies (2013–2015). He also starred in the romantic film Me Before You (2016). More recently, he has appeared in films like Adrift (2018) and The Nightingale (2018). On TV, he played Oswald Mosley in Peaky Blinders (2019–2022) and Mycroft Holmes in Enola Holmes (2020). In 2023, he played singer Billy Dunne in the musical drama Daisy Jones & the Six, which earned him a nomination for a Golden Globe Award.

Early Life and Education
Sam Claflin was born in Ipswich, England. His dad worked in finance, and his mom was a teaching assistant. He has two older brothers, Benjamin and Daniel, and a younger brother, Joseph, who is also an actor. Sam grew up in Norwich, England.
When he was a kid, Sam loved football. He played a lot until he broke his ankle. This injury made him think he couldn't play football professionally. After his parents and a teacher encouraged him, he decided to try acting. He had impressed his teacher during a high school play at Costessey High School.
In 2003, Sam studied Performing Arts at Norwich City College. He later graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 2009.

Starting Out and Becoming Famous (2010–2015)
Sam Claflin began acting in 2010. He appeared in two TV miniseries: The Pillars of the Earth and Any Human Heart. In 2011, he played footballer Duncan Edwards in the BBC TV drama United. This show was about the 1958 Munich air disaster.
In April 2010, Sam was chosen to play Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. This was the fourth movie in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean series. In the film, Philip is a missionary who falls in love with a mermaid. Sam was nominated for "Best Male Newcomer" for this role. In 2012, he was in the miniseries White Heat. Later that year, he played William, Snow White's childhood friend, in Snow White and the Huntsman. He was nominated for "Best Movie Breakout" at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards.
On August 22, 2012, it was announced that Sam would play Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games film series. He first appeared as Finnick in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The director, Francis Lawrence, praised Sam's performance, saying he brought a deep emotional side to the character. The movie was released in November 2013 and Sam's acting received good reviews. He played Finnick again in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and Part 2 (2015).
In 2013, Sam was cast as Alex in the movie Love, Rosie. He also starred in the TV film Mary and Martha. He received praise for his role as Alistair Ryle in The Riot Club. Critics said he showed his character's strong feelings very well. In 2014, Love, Rosie was released. It was popular with audiences.
Recent Films and Television (2016–Present)
In 2016, Sam Claflin appeared again as William in The Huntsman: Winter's War. In the same year, he starred in Me Before You, playing William Traynor. He also earned praise for his roles in the war drama Journey's End (2017) and Adrift (2018).
In 2018, Sam joined the TV show Peaky Blinders. He played Oswald Mosley, a real-life British politician from the past. In September 2020, he played Mycroft Holmes in the Netflix movie Enola Holmes. Mycroft is the older brother of the main character, Enola.
In 2023, Sam played Billy Dunne in Daisy Jones & the Six. This show is based on a book about a rock band in the 1970s. It premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Sam also sang on Aurora, the album recorded by the band in the show. He is also set to star in a TV show based on the famous book The Count of Monte-Cristo.
Personal Life
In 2011, Sam Claflin started dating actress Laura Haddock. They met during an audition. They got married in July 2013. They have two children: a son born in 2015 and a daughter born in 2018. Sam and Laura announced their separation in August 2019.
