After graduating from a top drama school in London, he quickly became a star. He played the missionary Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) and the heroic Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games film series.

Claflin is also known for starring in romantic movies like Love, Rosie (2014) and Me Before You (2016). He has shown his acting range in serious roles, such as playing the historical politician Oswald Mosley in the TV show Peaky Blinders and Mycroft Holmes in the Netflix film Enola Holmes (2020). Early Life and School

Sam Claflin was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. His father, Mark, was a finance officer, and his mother, Sue, was a teaching assistant. He grew up in the city of Norwich, Norfolk, with his two older brothers.

As a kid, Sam loved playing football and was very good at it. He played for the Norwich City School of Excellence. However, his dream of becoming a professional footballer ended when he broke his ankle. He worried this injury would stop him from playing at a high level.

His parents and a teacher encouraged him to try acting after seeing him in a high school play. He decided to follow their advice and studied Performing Arts at Norwich City College. He then went on to graduate from the famous London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2009.

Acting Career

First Roles and Big Break

Claflin started his acting career in 2010 with roles in two television series, The Pillars of the Earth and Any Human Heart. The next year, he played the real-life footballer Duncan Edwards in a BBC television drama called United. The film was about the 1958 Munich air disaster, a tragic plane crash involving the Manchester United football team.

His first major film role came in 2011 when he was cast as the missionary Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. This role made him known to audiences around the world. In 2012, he played William, Snow White's childhood friend, in the fantasy film Snow White and the Huntsman.

Becoming a Star with The Hunger Games

On 22 August 2012, it was announced that Claflin would play Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. This was a huge role in the very popular Hunger Games film series. The director, Francis Lawrence, said he chose Claflin because he could show Finnick's deep emotional side.

The movie was a massive success when it came out in November 2013. Fans and critics loved Claflin's performance as the charming and brave Finnick. He returned to play the character in the final two films of the series: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015).

During this time, Claflin also starred in the romantic comedy Love, Rosie (2014) with actress Lily Collins.
