Sammy Turner was born on June 2, 1932, in Paterson, New Jersey. He also grew up there. From a young age, Sammy loved to sing and write songs. When he was 18, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served as a paratrooper during the Korean War.

Hitting the Charts

In the late 1950s, Sammy Turner signed with Bigtop Records. This was a company that helped singers make and sell their music. He worked with famous music producers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. They helped create his sound.

Sammy had several popular songs on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart in 1959 and 1960. His biggest hits were "Lavender Blue" and "Always". "Lavender Blue" reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "Always" was also a big hit, reaching number 19 on the same chart. It even made it to number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. Another popular song was "Paradise," which reached number 46 in 1960. Later, in the 1960s, Sammy also recorded music for Motown Records. This was another very famous music company known for its R&B and soul music.
